Short Things I Want To Comment On…

Wow, Cubs GM Jim Hendry went hard at Carlos Silva after the team cut him and he didn’t have very nice things to say about pitching coach Mark Riggins. Said Hendry:  “Obviously we’re dealing with a man at this stage of his career who’s not willing to face the facts. What he’s done for the last few years in his career, except for a two-month period, is way below major league standards. And he seems to have the continual problem [of] blaming everybody but himself.” Ouch. Thing is, and I’ve covered it in previous posts, Hendry’s right. Silva was at one time called by someone (I don’t remember who but trust me it someone who would know) the worst pitcher on any 40 man roster in the league. The most ridiculous thing is that Carlos Silva is owed $11.5 million this season. Seriously?!? Carlos Silva is making more this year than I will in my entire life? Really? Silva? He’s done nothing. He’s a below average big league pitcher at best. $11.5 million. C’mon, this is nuts. I know people complain when A-Rod signs a $275 million deal or Pujols asks for $30 mill a year but this bothers me way more. At least those guys have a chance to make that much for their teams in attendance, apparel sales, etc. but Silva? Guys like that don’t put people in the seats, no one walks around with a Silva jersey on ( I bet they don’t even make them).  What has he done to deserve that much money? That’s so much money.

The Yankees signed Kevin Millwood. Probably just to spite me.

ESPN New York has given Derek Jeter and his quest for 3000 hits its own web page, its even got a slide show of all the girls Jeter has dated since entering the public spotlight. The impressiveness of the list (and the photos) does not eliminate how unbelievably stupid this website is.

The Braves cut Scott Proctor today. That’s too bad. I always liked Proctor, he was really good until Joe Torre blew out his arm by pitching him basically every day in 2006 and 2007. He had 102.1 innings in ’06, as a reliever! He had 83 appearances in 2 consecutive seasons in ’06 and ’07!

That’s all I got for now. Sean’s about to post something in a minute, read it. Comment too.
