SB Nation Blog Names

We at Off the Bench decided to join SB Nation as it will help us get our blog out to more readers and hopefully get more hits and traffic and discussion going about the material we post.  SB Nation is a great host site for many blogs and each team has their own blog with their own URL and name.  Some of these names are just dumb while others are creative and witty.  We don’t care what you think of Off The Bench (because we like it) but here’s our ranking of the 30 team specific blog names as a part of SB Nation:

30.  Bless You Boys: This is a dumb, atrocious, nonsensical name for a blog.  The moment we saw it, we knew it would be at the bottom of the list.  Its unique in its stupidity and lack of creativity. It is an embarrassment to the city of Detroit and the Tigers organization.  Who are they to bless anyone? Nonsense.

29.  Gas Lamp Ball:  What does this mean?  Baseball was never played under gas lamps. The first game ever under a light was not played under gas lamps (thank God for electricity).  It makes no sense and is not even sport specific. Stupid.

28.  Fish Stripes:  What the hell?  Fish Stripes?  That is the name of the blog? Really?  Do fish even have stripes? Tiger Stripes… now that is a name.  Subpar.

27. Athletic’s Nation:  The A’s don’t have a nation.  The Red Sox have a nation.  The A’s have a fanbase.  Athletic’s nation as a part of SB nation? Did they even try? Lazy.

26.  Pinstripe Alley:  This low because of the disappointment.  The Yankees can have a great blog name.  This just is not it.  Babe’s blog would work or Lou’s last words.  I don’t care. This is just too… Generic.

25.  DRays Bay:  Do you write in a bay?  Is it the bay of a cargo plane?  No. A bay is a body of water where you can’t write anything.  Plus, they’re called the Rays now.  No D.  The D has been exercised.  Confusing.

24.  Lonestar Ball:  There are two teams in the Lonestar state.  Making this name dumb.  Who cares about Lonestar Ball?  I care about Ranger’s ball or Texas Tallys or Ryan’s No-No’s.  Arm-breaking (Yes, that is a shot at Josh Hamilton. Winning…)

23.  Federal Baseball.  Not unclever. Just ungood.  No ring. No rhyme. No reason.  The fed’s don’t play baseball for them.  Why not Our Nation’s Nats? Or Presidential… Something? I don’t know, it is not my job to come up with these.  Mediocre.

22.  Red Reporter:  Why isn’t it Reds reporter? Is this a shot at Native Americans? Are the Reds racist?  Or embarrassed? What’s the thought process? What’s the opposite of special?

21. Amazin’ Ave:  This is really just bad because the Mets aren’t Amazin’.  Is there an Amazin’ ave in Queens because that would make this name better?  Too bad I don’t have time for that type of research.  The blog name is as bad as the Met’s ownership. Unremarkable, yet I still remarked…

20.  Brew Crew Ball: Boring. They could do SO much here.  The Brewers have the best potential for awesome blog name about beer or drinking and watching a game.  Saddening.

19. Let’s Go Tribe:  Go Where?  Is that just a cheer?  They  could put a little thought into this one.  Who reads things about the Indians though?  Cleveland-esque.

18.  Bucs Dugout:  Lets be honest, the Buc’s Dugout writers have never been in the Buc’s dugout.  They have no real authority. They’re just guys writing about stats and games.  How sad.  Deceiving.

17.  AZ Snakepit:  This is where the names start to become OK.  The Snakepit is good.  The AZ… not so good.  Perhaps Phoenix or Arizona would have worked better. AZ just does not role off the tongue.  Mouthful.

16.  Royals Review:  Are they really reviewing the Royals?  What happens when they talk about things that are going to happen in the future?  Points for the alliteration but Royals Ranting may have worked better.  Middle.

15.  Halos Heaven:  The Angel’s have halos.  The name makes sense.  That lands the blog name right in the middle.  The fact that it is this high speaks to how poor the other blog names were.  Forgettable.

14.  Purple Row:  I like this. Its where they talk about Purple things. Like… the Rockies.  Why are the Rockies Purple again?  Oh, right because that is the color Todd Helton looks good in.  Purple.

13.  Bleed Cubbie Blue:  I don’t like the thought of the Cubbies bleeding. They do a lot of crying as it is… they need a break, they’re in our top 13.  Decent.

12.  South Side Sox:  Points for the alliteration again but I don’t think this one was that hard.  They pretty much just say Chicago Sox.  Not too much thought involved here. Whatever.

11.  Camden Chat:  We’re getting into the good names.  Camden Yards is where the Orioles play and they’re going to chat about the Orioles. Logical.

10. Good Phight:  Ignoring that they misspelled fight, it is a good name.  The Phightin’ Phils put up a Good Phight.  The problem is that the Phils phight the Bad Phight. Go Braves.

9.  Lookout Landing:  Lookout Landing is a place in Seattle. It’s famous and probably very pretty.  It also happens to be a good name for anything to do with Seattle.  Above Average.

8.  Viva el Birdos:  It is here because of the Stupity level.  The guys (or girls) admit they are not trying and do not know their Spanish.  We approve.

7.  True Blue L.A.:  This has a certain mystique about it.  The name calls on images of Jackie Robinson stealing home or Kirk Gibson being awesome or Vin Scully entertaining us for eternity and seems like a place for true fans.  Historical.

6.  McCovey Chronicles:  Willie McCovey is the man.  McCovey cove is really cool and I miss balls flying into the water off Bonds’ bat. Splash Hit.

5.  Crawfish Boxes:  Good Name.  Crawford Boxes? Nope, Crawfish boxes because crawfish are good.  I like this author and think he would be a good crawfish chef.  Do you have to be a chef to cook crawfish?  Cool.

4.  Over the Monster:  This name invites images of Home Runs going over the Green Monster. Or of young kids getting over their fears of monsters.  Either way, great name for a blog.  Sweet.

3.  Talkin’ Chop:  They are talking about the Chop.  The tomahawk chop that has become the Braves rally cry.  How cool!  Max did the order placements so we know fanhood plays into this decision minimally.  Fun.

2. Twinkie Town:  Not sure if the Twins eat a lot of Twinkies (John Kruk) but Twin is in TWINkie (Just in case you missed it).  Terrific name.

1.  Blue Bird Banter:  It’s good. Talks about the Blue Birds and there’s potential for Banter.  And there’s a great alliteration that is not totally evident at first.  Well done fellers. We tip our cap.

There’s the list.  Entirely too much time and effort put in to make fun of people who are better at what we do than we are but its the little things in life that make you feel good.  What was your favorite?

Stat of the Day:  About 175,000 new weblogs are created each day.  There are more than 2 blogs created each second of each day about 1.6 Million postings per day, or about 18.6 posts per second.  Here’s my addition to those numbers!
