Robinson Cano said there was no pain in his right shoulder from the bursitis that has bothered him in spring training.

Robinson Cano returned to play second base, handling his three chances and two double plays without incident as the Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins, 4-2, on Friday, giving New York an eight-game winning streak. It's the team's longest in Grapefruit League play since 2002.

Mark Teixeira, Todd Linden and Austin Jackson all hit solo shots. For each, it was their first homers this spring. But the most encouraging news came from Cano, who had been kept from playing the field because of right shoulder bursitis.

"I felt good," said Cano, who finished 1-for-3 while playing five innings. "There was no pain. Everything was perfect."

Starting pitcher Phil Hughes allowed a run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Hughes, who has had a strong spring, picked up the start because veteran Andy Pettitte remained in Tampa to pitch in an intrasquad minor league game.

"I felt good about my fastball command today, and I felt good about my changeup," Hughes said. "My curve wasn't great, but was usable. I did throw some good cutters."

Tip of the hat for Yankees media relations manager Michael Margolis, who was kind enough to send quotes from Ft. Myers.
