This is going to be real short because I’m tired, have work to do, and have class in the morning but something needs to be said:
The Boston Red Sox, the team that half the sporting world (including our own Sean Morash (whose recent post on the Phillies rotation is absurd)) picked to win the World Series are 0-4. The Baltimore Orioles are 4-0. I’m going to make a bold prediction here: The Sox will finish ahead of the O’s this year.
Although were about 2 more losses from Deval Patrick declaring a state of emergency in Massachusetts, were 4 games into the season, 4! I wrote last week that way too much credence is given to opening day results. The same can be said for the first week of the season, even the first month. Although as a fan I’m rather enjoying the Sox poor start I know its just that, a start. Crawford will hit, Lester will pitch, the team Theo Epstein assembled will perform as we all think it will. It hasn’t even been a week, give’em a chance. Calm down Red Sox nation and stop fanning the flames ESPN.
By the way, the stat that no team to start 0-4 has ever won the Series is so useless. Though an 0-4 start may be a big deal in football, where the season is only 16 games, over the course of a 162 game sschedule, four games can easily be made up for. I’m not going to say that the wins aren’t important, the Giants last year proved that every win counts, but I will say that it doesn’t matter if you win the first game or the fifth, as long as win more than everybody else after the 162nd.
