Welcome to the second edition (the first was a month ago) of Who’s Awesome and Who’s not Awesome. Its kind of like Sports Illustrated’s Who’s Hot and Who’s Not, only much more subjective.
Who’s Awesome:
Charl Schwartzel: When his parents named him, they didn’t think Charl would be successful. Seriously…What were they thinking??? But, Charl will wake up on Sunday in second place at the Masters. That’s really awesome for a guy named Charl.
Giants Broadcast team: I don’t know their names… I did look it up and couldn’t figure it out… but they work really well together and each have nice voices. I enjoyed watching the Giants play the other day in no small way because of their insight.
Manny Ramirez: Manny retired the other day, in case you didn’t hear. Manny always played to his own beat and did his own thing. A move like this makes Manny all the more awesome (As if his 555 career HR, .585 Slugging, and 1831 RBIs had not already taken care of that).
Chris Young: The New York Mets pitcher is currently ties for fifth in Slugging Percentage. Good job Chris. You making a case to be the best Chris Young in the Majors.
Who’s Not Awesome:
William Rhoden: Rhoden wrote this article about the Barry Bonds trial. Not everything is a racial issue and while I find some truth in the sentiment that the government’s vigor in pursuing Bonds suggests something more is at play, it’s absurd to say racial implications served as some sort of motivation.
Jack Wilson: Wednesday, Wilson removed himself from the Mariner’s game after committing two errors. This is a multiyear veteran who is capable of great plays in the field. He’s supposed to be a team leader and, with the Mariner’s roster lacking in overall talent this year, a gritty, hardnose approach should be the team’s calling card– Not this crybaby, unconfident, remove-myself-from-the-game-because-I-made-an-error bologna. Wilson- not awesome.
Astro’s Fans: Astro’s fans booed the team in its home opener- really making the team, owners, and coaches feel good about themselves. The fans should at least let the team be bad before they get booed. I can’t say I’ve ever been booed by my home fans in ernest, but it can’t be fun. Be nice guys
Tebow’s Statue: Tebow’s statue has been erected too quickly. Premature erections never make anyone happy. The plaque outside the stadium was pretty cool but while the man is still alive, why immortalize him in bronze?
