Paul Konerko is hitting .306 with 10Hrs and 3o RBIs. He’s off to a great start for the underperforming White Sox but everyone knows he’s really good. He was an MVP candidate last year and so is anything but under the radar. Another reason people know Konerko is because he plays in Chicago. Some other players don’t have that kind of luxury. Some are stuck in the baseball purgatory known as Arizona. Though they’re hosting the All-Star game, no body seems to know the Dbacks. The team certainly isn’t good but that by no means means they are devoid of talent. Here’s a couple of guys you may not have heard of but you will soon.
Ryan Roberts: Roberts has filled in for Arizona at short, third and in the outfield. This is the 30 year old’s 6th big league season and third with the Dbacks. He played 18 games over his first 3 seasons, including only one AB for the Rangers in 2008 but played 110 games for the Dbacks in 2009. After 36 games last year, he’s played so well that manager Kirk Gibson simply can’t bench him this year. He’s come back to earth a little in recent weeks but he’s still hitting .286 with 7 homers and 18 RBI. He’s versitile, he’s covered in tattoos, and you should learn his name.
Daniel Hudson: Hudson is definitely better known. He came up as a very hot prospect with the White Sox and has not disappointed. He got off to a really rough start but has been dominant lately. He’s only 4-5 with a 4.03 ERA but he lost his first four decisions and entered May with an ERA of 5.64. In his last five starts he’s 4-1 and averaged 6 and 2/3 innings. His ERA in may is 2.28. He’s also hitting 294 in 17 ABs.
Stat of the Day: On Monday, the US hit the legal debt ceiling, the maximum amount that the country can borrow to pay creditors. The ceiling is $14.294 trillion.
