Florida Marlin’s Logan Morrison has filed a grievance for what he believes was a wrongful demotion last month. He was sent down “for baseball reasons,” citing a .240’s average and general lack of knowing how to “be a major leaguer” according to Marlin’s management. However, I think it’s fairly obvious that Morrison was sent down to soften his public power. Morrison is famously an avid Twitter user (follow us @Blogoffthebench) but, both Max and I agree that Logan has allowed that to be too big of a distraction down in Miami. I understand it’s 2011, and I’m all for players using their position as a public figure to promote what they believe but, with the case of Logan Morrison, I’ve grown tired of his antics.
I adored LoMo for standing up for Scott Cousins in the post-Posey injury situation and I can’t say I disagree with his anger for being demoted but, the fact of the matter is, this guy is a career .263 hitter with 22 career homers. Has anyone with that stat line ever been talked about more? Perhaps Mike Hampton (.246 and 16).
He’s a young guy with some talent that most everyone agrees will never develop into a star on the field. He’ll be a productive major leaguer, if he ever figures out how to be a major leaguer (smile) but, shouldn’t hit above 6th for a team with championship aspirations. I like the guy, I’m just tired of the constant drama around him. He’s guaranteed he’ll have people talking about him and not for his play on the field. That’s why its time for Logan Morrison to GO AWAY.
Stat of the Day: 1999 was the year of Pedro but, would you believe the names who finished 1-4 on the NL side of the Cy Young voting? Randy Johnson won going away (20 of the 32 first place votes). Then Mike Hampton got 11 first placers after throwing a season with a 2.90 ERA. Then Kevin Millwood(career 4.10 ERA), and Jose Lima (the self admitted worst pitcher in the majors) rounded out he top 4.
