A Quick Look at Baseball’s Lighter Side
I was watching the Red Sox- Rays Grapefruit League game yesterday and back to back Rays struck out on three pitches. They were both wearing number 74, one guy had his name on the back and one didn’t. The NESN announcers thought this was the funniest thing in the world. They couldn’t get over the fact that back to back batters had the same number. “The Rays lead the Grapefruit League in number 74’s!” 0ne announcer managed to say between cackles.
I admit, it was a little funny, especially since at one point in the inning, anyone who wasn’t wearing 74 had gotten a hit and anyone that was had k’d. At the very least it was a nice lighthearted Spring Training moment for some announcers who have to call a game in which all the players you might know have gone home by the 4th inning.
