This Offseason Sucks, A Baseball Fan’s Rant
This offseason sucks.
I am a baseball fan; I don’t care about Hal Steinbrenner’s bank account. I am a baseball fan; I don’t care about the Dodger’s luxury tax concerns (though I do understand them, thank you very much) . I am a baseball fan and this offseason sucks.
I want to see Bryce Harper in a new uniform; Manny Machado in a new uniform; Dallas Keuchel in a new uniform. This offseason sucks.
I want to see Robinson Cano get traded; Yasiel Puig get traded; Paul Goldschmidt get traded; JT Realmuto get traded. I’ve gotten a few of those things, but not enough. Because this offseason sucks.
Don’t go adding the DH in the
I don’t care that revenue is at an all time high. I’m a baseball fan; I shouldn’t be brainwashed with the business of baseball. I care about player movement, rumors, whispers, rumblings, grumblings, wheelings and dealings; power struggles and arms races!
I am not interested in a league where the Marlins and Orioles plan to win 100 games combined.
Where’s the competitive spirit? Why don’t teams want to win bad enough that they blow past previously hard internal payroll caps to grab a once-in-a-lifetime talent that will catapult them into contention? Didn’t they used to do that?!?
I was looking forward to this offseason for like three years! Harper and Machado! The best, youngest group of talent ever! Why is it February 7th and neither are signed? This offseason sucks.
Baseball isn’t supposed to be like this. Casual fans of the game shouldn’t have to care about luxury tax implications (as much as we may intellectually comprehend them, thank you very much) and excuses for why a team can’t go past $XX million in payroll.
Why is the most exciting thing to happen in a month a rumor about the Padres maybe possibly being interested in Harper? This offseason sucks.
At least the Padres are going back to brown, sometimes.
Why is the most interesting thing to happen in three months Harold Baines getting elected to the Hall of Fame? That was dumb. This offseason sucks.
Bring on the signings! Bring on the one-upsmanship! Bring on the fast and furious transaction news. Bring on… something.
I’ve had it with this baseball reality. The best way to alienate fans is not to have games that last 9 minutes longer – it’s to turn the sports section into the Wall Street Journal. I read The Wall, it’s boring. It’s not baseball.
Fix this, Rob Manfred. Disprove the running theory that you secretly don’t like baseball.
The season better start soon, because this offseason sucks.
