Los Angeles Angels Suffer Another Superfluous Injury
Another Los Angeles Angel had a devastating fall from the heavens and this time it took place last week.
It is proving to be a trying season for Angels manager, Brad Ausmus, who, earlier in July had to deal with the devastating loss of Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs was on the Los Angeles Angels baseball team when the pitcher was found deceased in his hotel room. The death brought on a wave of shock and severe loss for his loved ones as well as his team who became like family to Skaggs. Angels manager took the players death harshly, speaking to the press through tears. Needless to say, fans were at a loss and the news distraught many.
But the team had to forge onward as baseball is one of the most-watched American sports. Bookmakers feature the games and fans can register here to stay updated with the biggest wagers on the game. However, it wasn’t expected that the Angels would suffer a number of other injuries making it the toughest season yet.
The season was a failure for the Angels as there was no winning record, something the team was aiming for. To put it into context, 25 players have been sidelined due to various injuries. These injuries took at least several days for recovery, benching key players during a very tough time indeed. September proved to be the most challenging as Shohei Ohtani had surgery, Justin Upton suffered an injury to his knee and Mike Trout had a foot injury all in the space of one week. There were several more injustices before this and included Cam Bedrosian’s sprained forearm and Griffin Canning had an inflamed hand. Another swing and miss for the Angels was when Felix Pena needed surgery in his right knee, benching him for several weeks.
Manager Brad Ausmus is telling his side of the story in one simple word, ‘Trying’. The Angels manager has faced more injuries and loss in this season than he saw managing the Detroit Tigers. Ausmus went on to say that the season was an emotionally difficult one, especially since the loss of Tyler, that there was never a season like the one he was experiencing.
Another moment which took place on the field was when rookie Luis Rengifo hurt his hand hitting a fastball. The injury immediately brought the infielder to his knees in agonizing pain causing him to leave the game without hesitance. The injury was so severe that fans are wondering if this is the end of his baseball career or just the season, either way it would appear the young baseballer won’t be returning to the field this season. However, Rengifo has spoken to the public saying that he wants to focus on recovery without frustration to come back next season with the same mentality he had this season.
Despite being an especially challenging year for the LA Angels, fans have hope the team can recover composure and take the season head on stronger than ever before.
