A few disclaimers: i’m doing this on my DROID (yay, mobile clogging!) And 2 i’m not going to check any stats -just some opinions and rhetoric flow. MLB has some interesting things going on right now… let’s examine.
1) jason heyward has been on the dl for 3 weeks with a sore shoulder that has no structural damage. His teammates seem a bit pissy about that and chipper jones recently spoke out saying people should play through injuries. My take: the guy hit .220 for 2 months then decided the shoulder was affecting his game. The braves don’t need another 220 hitter in their lineup especially if he can take time off, get healthy, and become a force over the season’s last 3 months. There’s other guys on the roster who can play (that’s why they’re on a major league roster)
2) the pittsburgh pirates made it back to .500 last night for the first time this late in the season since 2005. My take: good for them but here’s another sign as to how totally inept this organization has been for the last 19 years. I hope they succeed, I really do. The excitement in the pirates’ fan base about this is pretty important and maybe they can finally assemble some young (or old) talent. However, how bad do you have to be for 5 years to not even be .500 through june. AVERAGE. .500 is MLB average and they have barely even pretended to be an average team for very long in a very long time. Pittsburgh needs a drink.
3) Alexi ogando lowered his WHIP to .90 and era to almost 2. My take: this guy is awesome! He just paints his 97 on the corner with a good slider. Imagine if he knew a 3rd pitch or knew how to start games (well, apparently he does).
