Can we all just enjoy the Tony LaRussa fiasco that was last night? I’ve long made it known that I hate the guy (Mentioned it here and here and here, and this one is all about how I hate him written July 10th ) but I’ll add another legitimate reason to my collection. He throws his guys under the bus. He blames using an unavailable reliever to intentionally walk a single batter on a bullpen phone that isn’t loud enough. It’s the 21st century Tony. He blames Colby Rasmus’s struggles on advice from Rasmus’s dad when guys like Chipper Jones and Brian McCann have long used their dads as personal hitting coach. Tony blamed the player’s union for Albert Pujols failing to sign a contract in Spring Training. Apparently Tony came up with a conspiracy theory that the union wanted Albert to hold out to set the standard for salary within the league a la A-Rod in 2001.
Bottom Line: It’s never Tony’s fault. It’s time for the 67 year old manager to grow up and take some responsibility.
Stat of the Day: John Lackey will have Tommy John surgery this offseason. Making him ineligible to pitch in 2012. Makes one think about just how bad his arm must have felt in that fateful September.
